The city of Braga is one of the oldest cities in Portugal. It has always been a significant religious point on the country map. The very first building we saw there, was the “Sanctuaire de Bom Jesus do Monte” which is located outside the city, on a hill. Outstanding and meticulously decorated staircase leads to the sanctuary.

The views from the highest point of that hill are amazing! One can also get to the top by the original funicular , which dates back to 1883. There are also many interesting buildings in the very center of the city. Among others, the 15th-century Arco da Porta Nova gate, the 14th-century royal chapel, or the monumental Se Cathedral which was erected in the 11th century. It is also worth taking a stroll along Rua do Souto, which has a truly medieval atmosphere.
Everyone should also visit Braga's main square, Praca da Republica, dominated by a 17th-century building known as Arcadas. The old town, although small, gives the feeling of a kind of travel in time. Especially in good weather, Braga invites you to stroll and discover its many charming alleys. There is nothing to be limited to Bom Jesus, you must also get to know the rest of Braga!

When walking amongst all those wonderful builds we met a student. It was a perfect opportunity to get to know local people better, especially in terms of their culture and cuisine. Moreover, we wanted to spend some spare money – the choice was simple. We bought colorful tiles or magnet tiles. To my mind, tenement houses covered in tiles look beautiful. This aspect of them not only provides the appreciated visuals but also reflects the sunlight as to prevent the temperature rise inside. During our visit we had to try ”Pastel de nata” - It was so delicious! We were so surprised by its taste that we ordered several more. We surely have a sweet tooth. :)
